Up for sale is a silver dollar issued to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the Spanish – Mexican Juan Perez Expedition. Perez and his crew aboard the ship Santiago were the first to examine the islands near British Columbia. One of these islands was named Santa Margarita. Today it is known as Queen Charlotte Island which was renamed after a survey by English captain George Dixon in 1787. The coin displays an image of the Santiago at anchor at a bay they named Rada de San Lorenzo de Nootka, today known as Nootka Sound. A group of natives approached the ship in several canoes. This coin comes in its original packaging from the Royal Canadian Mint with its certificate of authenticity. Please view photos and feel free to ask questions.
