Up for sale is a unique lapel button, the Gold Star Lapel Button. In 1947, Congress approved the use of the Gold Star Lapel Button as a way to recognize the families of military members who gave their lives while engaged in action against an enemy of the United States in certain operations defined by law. Even though this act was passed after World War II, recipients from back to World War I have received this. The Gold Star Lapel Button displays a gold star on a purple background bordered in gold and surrounded by gold laurel leaves. On the reverse is the inscription, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1 AUGUST 1947 ACT OF CONGRESS. There is space for the family and next-of-kin to engrave the initials of the deceased if they so desire. This one is engraved with initials E I F. As this lapel button was issued some time from 1947 through the Korean War and it bears no other identity to the recipient, determining the person who received this is difficult.Please view photos and feel free to ask questions.
