2011 Reed Banknote Company Confederate Currency $5000 Note
Up for sale is a novelty note produced by the Richard J. Reed of the Reed Banknote Company. To mark the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War in 2011, he printed a novelty $5,000 Confederate States of America note. No such notes were ever issued but this is a peculiar what-if item. The obverse displays a center vignette of the Southern ironclad C.S.S. Virginia (formerly the U.S.S. Merrimack). Two portraits are displayed at left and right; President of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis and Vice-President of the Confederacy Alexander Stephens. The note is not a genuine note from the American Civil War era and is definitely not legal tender. Please view photos and feel free to ask questions. We are open to offers.
