Up for sale is a 1911 Canadian 10 cent coin. When this design first came out, the obverse legend surrounding the king's portrait read, 'GEORGIVS V REX ET IND IMP," which fully expanded and translated reads, "George the Fifth, King and Emperor of India." This legend omitted any reference to the sovereign's title as 'Defender of the Faith' and neglected any reference to any deity. This was modified for the 1912 issues where the legend now read, "GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: REX ET IND:IMP:" or 'King George the Fifth, King and Emperor of India by the Grace of God.' The 1911 issue of Canadian coinage notes a year when the money took a turn for the secular. Please view photos and feel free to ask questions.
