Up for sale is an American Civil War Token. This is a patriotic issue known as 'Wilson's Medal' because of the inscription on the reverse. This reverse was used on many Civil War Tokens. The number 1 in the center is thought to refer to the token's size as the one cent coin produced by the U.S. Mint. The obverse displays a personification of Liberty. Unlike the small cent coin which shows Liberty wearing a Native American headdress, this portrait shows Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, more in line with her appearance on silver U.S. coinage. The bottom of the token carries the year 1863. This token was struck with the reverse rotated 45 degrees. Please view photos and feel free to ask questions.
