1712-D French Colonies 30 Deniers Silver Coin W-11730 Mousquetaire
The current coin lists as: 30 deniers silver coin. This coin was struck at the Lyons Mint for circulation only in Nouville, France. These coins were similar to issues struck for circulation throughout French Colonial Louisiana. The obverse of the coin displays two capital letter L’s back to back and topped with a crown symbolizing the royal administration of King Louis XIV. The reverse of the coin displays a cross with fleurs-de-lis in the angles. The outlined cross is similar to the tabards carried by French musketeers and it earned this coin the nickname, “Mousquetaire.” Please view photos and feel free to ask questions.
