1942 -D Australia Sixpence Silver Coin. Twelve million of these coins were struck at the U.S. Mint in Denver, Colorado. During the Second World War, to relieve burden on the Australian mint facilities in Perth and Melbourne, the United States was contracted to produce Australian coins in values of threepence, sixpence, shilling (twelve pence), and florin (twenty-four pence). These coins struck in the United States were produced to the same specifications as those produced in Australia. This coin is a great teaching tool which highlights the alliance among the Allied nations during World War II. Please view photos and feel free to ask questions.
