1927 Palestine 10 Mils KM# 4 2GQC
Up for sale is a coin minted for the Palestinian Mandate which became British territory from Ottoman Turkey following the latter’s defeat in World War I. This coin has a value of 10 mils and is composed of a copper-nickel alloy. The obverse features year 1927 written in European and Arabic numerals. Also interesting is the word PALESTINE which is spelled out in English, Arabic, and Hebrew. The latter caused a controversy as the Hebrew name for Palestine, “פלשתינה” also has an abbreviation following it in brackets (א”×™). That abbreviation, aleph and yod, were an abbreviation for  ארץ ישראל (Eretz Yisra’el), “The Land of Israel.” This infuriated Arab citizens for obvious reasons as well as Orthodox Jews who believe only the Messiah from the House of David can reestablish the historical Kingdom of Israel.
